For the month of July, the Stier Family Gallery is shining a spotlight on some of the local growers that partner with The Locker Project to nourish our neighbors.
The Locker Project is TML’s inaugural Community Spotlight Organization. Their mission is to connect food-insecure children in Maine with nourishing food to improve their learning capacity, health and future. They take a whole-family approach to child hunger with programs that strive to be low-barrier, stigma-free and environmentally responsible. We are thrilled to be highlighting this amazing organization this summer!

| 4-H Program - Ice Cream Making |
Thursday, July 16
3:30 - 4:30 pm |
Participants ages 5-10 years old will learn about dairy, turn simple ingredients into creamy homemade ice cream, and get to eat their ice cream at the end of the program! |

Plan to be outside in the children's garden if the weather is nice. (Our rain location will be the Community Room.) Caregivers are required to stay for the program. Registration is required--maximum of 15 children participants. Please register on the 4-H website HERE with one registration per family. Siblings and adult caregivers do not need to register separately.

Smart911 New Emergency Alert System |
|
|
|
Be prepared for any emergency by giving public safety the information they need to better help and communicate with you. Citizens enrolled in the free Smart911 system will receive critical information about a variety of situations, such as severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing persons, building or neighborhood evacuations, and more. Time-sensitive messages will be sent to the individual's preferred communication device. The system differs from other systems that ‘ping’ cell phones. Cumberland County Emergency Management Director Michael Durkin explains, “Tying alerts to an address is a strength because the system allows you to enter multiple addresses. You can put your home, work, a camp, your children’s bus stop, or any location that matters. That flexibility is important.”
As of February 2026, this system replaces the previously used CodeRed system. Anyone who wishes to continue receiving alerts must subscribe to the new Smart911 system. Visit Smart911 to sign up. |

BEE on the Lookout
for the Rusty Patched Bumble Bee |

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is looking for the federally Endangered Rusty Patched Bumble Bee and they need your help! Bees are among the most important pollinators, pollinating 2/3 of the food we eat, ensuring food security and healthy ecosystems for both humans and wildlife. But some species are becoming rare or even extirpated. With a 90% decline in numbers and range since the 1990s, the Rusty Patched Bumble Bee (Bombus affinis) is the first bumble bee protected by the U.S. Endangered Species Act. It has not been seen in Maine since 2009, but we are hopeful it’s still out there somewhere. Click here to find out how you can help!
